Elizabeth H. Gray

APACHE JCT., ARIZ.—Elizabeth (Betty) H. Gray, 69, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008 after a short battle with cancer at Banner Hospice in Mesa, Ariz.

She was born November 29, 1938 in Torrington, Conn., the daughter of Leon and Emma (Reynolds) Andrews. She was raised in Torrington and attended Torrington High School. She had attended Torrington Beauty Academy for hairdressing and took classes to become a nurse’s aide.

She married John W. Gray in August of 1981 and moved to Vermont shortly thereafter. They lived in South Royalton until four years ago, when they moved to Apache Junction, Ariz.

She attended the Journey Church of South Royalton and volunteered at the Senior Thrift Store and the food shelf for the church before moving to Arizona, where she was active with numerous clubs within the park where she lived.

Survivors include her five children: Bonnie Adkins and her husband, Brent, of South Royalton; Darlene Osborn and her husband, Christopher, of Litchfield, Conn.; Linda MacKenzie and her husband, Timothy, of Largo, Fla.; Valerie Arnold and her companion, Zoltan, of Chelsea; and Thomas Arnold and his wife, Patricia, of South Royalton; seven step-children: John Gray Jr. of Mississippi, and Margaret Stearns, Alexander Gray, Christopher Gray, Benjamin Gray, Lucille Walton and Frederick Gray, all of Florida. She is also survived by two brothers, Leon Andrews and his wife, Carol, of Florida; and Francis Andrews and his wife, Hannah, of Meriden, Conn.; a sister, Lorraine Sedor and her husband, Stephen, of Braintree; over 20 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and one godchild.

She was predeceased by both of her parents and two sisters.

A small gathering was held February 3 in Apache Junction, Ariz., with family members attending. She was cremated, with her ashes to be buried in Vermont at a future date.
