Barbara Butterfield

BRAINTREE—Barbara M. Butterfield, 59, died Monday evening, Feb. 18, 2008, at the VA Regional Medical Center in White River Junction.

She was born March 25, 1948, in Randolph, the daughter of Estey and Aileen (Smith) Manning.

She attended Starksboro, Bethel, Stockbridge and Randolph schools. She later attended Lyndon State College. She married Laurence Butterfield March 2, 1974, in Randolph. They lived in Maine and the central Vermont area.

In earlier years, she worked at Tranquility Nursing Home in Randolph. She later worked as a child caregiver for the State of Vermont and for several family members as well. She was a life member of the D.A.V. Auxiliary in Lewiston, Maine.

She enjoyed doing craftwork and going to Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods casinos. She especially enjoyed looking after her grandchildren. She also did volunteer work for the D.A.V. and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Laurence Butterfield, Sr., of Braintree; three sons, Anthony Wight, Jr. and Laurence Butterfield, Jr., both of Braintree, and Arthur Butterfield of Northfield; a daughter, Barbara Stevens of Braintree; three brothers, Sherman Manning of Frostproof, Fla., Estey Manning, Jr. of Williamstown, and Robert Manning of Rochester; a sister, Laurie Bent of Braintree; 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a sister, Joan Bent; and a brother, Kenneth Manning.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m. at the Green Mountain Gospel Chapel on Rt. 66 in Randolph with Rev. Ronald E. Rilling officiating. Burial will be in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Calling hours will be Thursday evening from 7-8 p.m. at the Day Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 25 Keith Avenue, Barre, Vt., 05641.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home of Randolph.
