In their final two games of the regular season, the Northfield Marauders H.S. hockey team won one and lost one to finish with a record of 13-5-1. On Friday, they beat U-32 in Montpelier, 5-1. Kyle Edson had a goal and three assists. The other goal scorers were Garett Dukette, Nick Boyce, Cory Hunt and Danny Lamb. Goalie Stefan Wuorinen made 20 saves. On Saturday, the boys lost at home 3-1 to St. Johnsbury, which ended their nine-game win streak. Anthony Amell had a goal and Stefan Wuorinen had 29 saves for Northfield. The Marauders have earned a #3 seed in the Lake Division Playoffs, and will face #14, U-32 (3-14-3) in the opening round. If they win, their next game would also be at home against either #6 Harwood (12-7-1) or #11 Peoples (7-13-0) on Saturday, 2/16 (TBA). The semifinals (2/20) and the finals (2/20), will be at UVM's Gutterson Fieldhouse. Bantams The Bantam team has had an up and down trip, but remains in the state tournament field with one loss. They will play the loser of a game between undefeated Stowe and Mississquoi tonight at 6:10 in Waterbury. If they win, they would need to beat Mississquoi twice, challenging, but not out of the realm of possibilities. Northfield has lost twice to Stowe and twice to Mississquoi this year. Their overall record now stands at 24-4-0. They opened with a 3-2 win against Northshire, then lost a thriller in overtime to Stowe, 7-6. This was followed by a 2-1 win over Colchester/South Burlington, and an overtime win, 3-2, in a rematch with Northshire. Dakota Enberg, Alex Start, Sam Dyer, Cody Martin, and Ben LeBlanc have all made major contributions to the team’s success and hopefully will be able to finish the season with three more wins. Goaltender Ben Albury has been outstanding in goal for the Northstars. Girls Under 12 The Girls Under-12 team ended their season with a 2-0 loss to Harwood and will face Mississquoi tonight in Highgate. This is their opening game in a six-team, double elimination state tournament event which runs through Tuesday or Wednesday. We wish the team well and look forward to reporting on the girls’ results. Locals, Erin Easton, Britney Lafreniere, Libby Start, and Cassidy Enberg are all key members of this squad. B Team The NAHA Squirt B team (boys 9 and 10 years old) played in the state tournament this past weekend in South Burlington. After a long season with few wins, the Squirts elevated their play and won their first tournament game against Missisquoi on Saturday, 6-0. Local player, Jacob Kaplan, played a strong game as defenseman. This lined them up to play Brattleboro on Sunday. Although they played a tough game with much effort, especially by goalie Simon Hoffman of Northfield, they lost 7-0. Their next tournament game was Tuesday night, Feb. 12, against Barre. We will report on the outcome of this game in next weeks paper (along with a few more we hope)! ____________ |
