On Saturday, Jan. 26 the Randolph wrestlers went to the Mt. Greylock tournament in Massachusetts. David Maxfield was first to have success, wrestling Kyle Maynard of Taconic, Mass. to a takedown and a pin in 1:30. He followed that with a takedown and pin in 00:48, then another even faster, against Owen Fillion of Tollgate, R.I., at 00:38. This put him into the finals against Anthony Spirto of Southwick, Mass. Maxfield won this match 15-0. Matt Simpson also had a good day at Mt. Greylock. He started off wrestling Nate Jones of Monument Mt., Mass., pinning him in the second period in 2:27. Simpson then pinned Jason Powell of Chariho, R.I. in the third period, pin time of 3:21. For his finals match, Simpson wrestled Jimmy Cheung of Colonie, N.Y. He lost by points, but still placed second in the tournament. Taylor Holt started off his day wrestling Mike Millen of Narragansett, R.I., losing by points, 6-10. Holt then pinned Jordan Rathbun of Berlin, N.Y. in the second period, with a pin time of 1:25. Holt then moved on to wrestle Jordan Adames of Mt. Greylock, but was pinned in the second period. Nathan Bacon lost a couple of matches to wrestlers from Rhode Island. ____________ |
