W.R. Valley Players Announce Auditions for ‘Ah, Wilderness!’

The White River Valley Players of Rochester have announced that their spring production will be Eugene O’Neill’s three-act comedy, "Ah, Wilderness!"

Auditions for the show will take place Thursday, Feb. 7 from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 9 from 9 a.m.-12 noon at the Rochester High School auditorium.

Jeanne Rogow will direct the show and the producer will be Jeremy Seeger. Performance dates will be April 25, 26 and 27 and May 2, 3 and 4.

"Ah, Wilderness!" is set in "a large small-town in Connecticut" in 1906, and tells the story of the Miller family. The central character is 17-year-old Richard, who goes about the house quoting—and occasionally mispronouncing—poetry by Oscar Wilde and Omar Khayyam, and professing scorn for his family’s patriotic ideals.

The family includes Richard’s father, Nat, a newspaper editor who may dither about explaining the facts of life to his son but who stands up for him when it counts; his mother, Essie; his spinster aunt, Lily Miller; and alcoholic uncle, Sid Davis.

There are 15 roles to be cast, with small and large parts available for teens through middle aged adults. Those who plan to audition should wear comfortable shoes and clothing. There is no need to prepare anything special. A reading copy of the script will be available at the Rochester Library.

For more information, call Jeremy Seeger at 767-3790.
