Vt. Philharmonic & Sounding Joy!

Plan Chandler and BOH Concerts

The Vermont Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Sunday, Feb. 3 at the Barre Opera House, and the following Sunday, Feb. 10 at Chandler Music Hall in Randolph. Both concerts will begin at 3:30 p.m.

The program will open with American classical composer Roy Harris‚ Symphony #3 in one movement. Owen Kevra-Lenz, recipient of the VPO’s 2008 Jon Borowicz Memorial Scholarship, will be guest violin soloist, performing the first movement of Haydn’s Concerto for Violin and Strings in G Major.

Following a short intermission, the second half of the performance will feature JS Bach’s spectacular Magnificat, BWV 243, featuring the VPO and two well-known Vermont choral groups, NorthSong of Newport, directed by Anne Hamilton, and Sounding Joy! of Randolph, directed by Marjorie Drysdale.

A special live edition of WCVT’s Vermont Notes program with Linda Radtke will precede the February 3 Barre Opera House concert. Starting at 3 p.m., Radtke will take to the Barre Opera House stage for a pre-performance talk with VPO conductor and music director Lou Kosma, as well as Hamilton and Drysdale. Vermont Notes is regularly heard on WCVT FM 101.7 in central Vermont every Sunday morning at 10 a.m.

All concert-goers are invited to join Kosma, chorus members, VPO musicians and directors for a post-concert reception at Sean and Nora’s Restaurant following the February 3 concert. Reception tickets include hors d’oeuvres. Drinks and dinner will be available at additional cost.

Concert tickets are available from the Barre Opera House Box Office at 802-476-8188, and locally at Cover-to-Cover Books in Randolph and the Northfield Pharmacy.
