January 28 Is Deadline
For Town Office Petitions

Two seats on the five-member Randolph Elementary School Board will be up for election on Town Meeting Day, one a two-year term and the other for three years.

One of the two seats is wide open, as Board Chair Matt Poirier, at the end of his second three-year term, has decided not to run again.

Board member, Anne Black Cone, whose two-year term is up this year, has indicated her intention to run again.

The deadline to file a petition to be a candidate for any of the open town elected positions is January 28.

Poirier, who served as chair for five of his six years on the board, said he felt it was time for a change.

"I want to do something else, but I don’t know what yet," he said.

Also, Poirier noted his four children have all graduated from the elementary school.

Looking back on his six years, Poirier said the thing he finds most "exciting" is how operations in the supervisory union have improved, under the leadership of Supt. Brent Kay.

Now, schools, boards, and administrators district-wide are working together on a wide range of issues, from coordinating curriculum to collaborative purchasing, Poirier said.
