The last week of hockey action proved to be an exciting and successful one for the locals and their teams. The Northfield HS Marauders had two consecutive shutouts with goalie Stefan Wuoinen putting in an outstanding effort for six straight periods. They beat Burr & Burton 2-0 with goals by Corey Hunt and Tyler Goodrich, both assisted by Alex Green. This was followed by a 3-0 win over Stowe. Green had a big night with two goals and an assist. The boys next played Mt. Mansfield away on Wednesday and won, 2-1. Green assisted on both goals. With a 5-3 win over North Country at home on Saturday, the team’s record is now 8-4-1. Bantams The Bantam team continued to roll along with four more wins to bring their record to 17-1-0. They beat Harwood 8-1 and Barre 7-3. Dakota Enberg had a hat trick in each game. They beat Montpelier, 8-1, and Hartford, 4-1. Alex Start had a goal on Saturday. Locals Sam Dyer, Alex Start, Ben Leblanc, and Cody Martin are all key members of this team. Girls Under 12 The Girls Under 12 team won against Hartford 8-0. A team defensive effort produced a shutout for goalie Markie Delude. Goals were scored by Libby Start, Hillary Amell, D J Doney, Cheyenne Tardie, Lydia Hoffman (two), and Kristen Dukette (two). They played Harwood last Saturday and lost a thriller, 3-2. Erin Easton scored off an assist by Brittney LaFreniere Squirt Team Jacob Kaplan got his first career goal in a game on Saturday, Jan. 5, against Montpelier at the Civic Center. Despite his team going down 8-2, he was grinning from ear to ear at stick-n-puck on Saturday night. The squirt team is for players age 9-10. Riley Corey is the goalie for the Mite team, which is for kids age 7-8. Mite Team Our last bit of hockey news is about Alf Rylander. He plays on a mite team called the Hanover Wild. His team went down 6-5 in a tough battle. Alf had a goal and an assist. His third period goal tied the game at 5-5. |
