Lopsided Scores For Gal Ghosts
By Hannah Becker

The Randolph Lady Ghosts suffered two losses this past week, one to Lamoille, 63-26 on Thursday and one to Oxbow, 70-56 on Saturday.

Lamoille Game

The Randolph Lady Ghosts traveled to Lamoille last Thursday, and after the long trip, suffered a 37-point loss at the hands of the defending champions.

The first quarter was no evidence of how the game would play out. Randolph came out very strong with tough defense, but missed lay-ups put the Ghosts down by three, 12-9. Randolph was not out of the game at all, but the second quarter put the game almost out of reach.

Lamoille scored 20 points in the quarter compared to just four for Randolph. The Ghosts were 0 for 21 from the floor and all four points were scored on the charity stripe. Halftime gave the Ghosts a chance to catch their breath and relax.

Nothing went right for the Ghosts, unfortunately, for the entire remainder of the game. In the third quarter, the Ghosts managed to add seven points to the board, but the Lancers added 18. The Ghosts were 2 for 15 from the floor and again foul shots killed them as they were only 10 for 25 in the game.

The fourth quarter was no better as the Ghosts left the court down 37 points in a 63-26 loss. Scoring in the game were Gwen Reis with 8, Ashley Chase with 5, Javon Miller with 4, Amanda Bowen, Hannah Becker, and Katie Jickling with 2 each, and Arielle Connolly, Shayne Reis, and Heather Mugford each with 1.

Loss at Oxbow

On Saturday Morning the Ghosts traveled to Oxbow to face the Olympians.

The Lady Ghosts played a great, well-fought game against the Olympians but weren’t able to pull through with the win. The Ghosts opened the game strong with a three-pointer from Becker and a basket from G. Reis. Tough defense and a well-run offense put the Ghosts up 16-12 after the first quarter.

The second quarter was much of the same, but the Ghosts were in foul trouble quickly, putting Oxbow on the line and giving them a chance to catch up. The second half was much slower for Randolph with three starters on the bench due to foul trouble. There were some questionable calls in the half that made the Ghosts very discouraged and frustrated. The Ladies were down after the third quarter 52-39 but were not out of the game.

Randolph fought hard until the end of the game but more arguable calls and fouls put them too far out. Both Connolly and Lyndsay Smith fouled out and Becker and Miller had four each. Again Oxbow was on the line with free shots that put the Ghosts in a big hole, too big to dig out of.

The Ghosts scored over 50 points, their goal for each game, and Coach West was proud of his players. Scoring in the game were G. Reis with 24, Miller with 10, S. Reis with 6, Mugford with 5, Smith, Becker, and Jickling with 3 each, and Connolly with 2.

The Ghosts will not play this week due to Midterm exams, but they do play again Tuesday, Jan. 22, at U-32 and home on Thursday, Jan. 24 versus Lyndon.
