The Sharon Academy boys traveled to Cabot last Friday, Jan. 11, and Saturday, Jan. 12, and played in the Cabot Tournament. On Friday, the Phoenix suited up against the Websterville Baptist Christian School Warriors and defeated their opponents, 54-37, with junior Colin Pope leading the way. Pope scored 21 points in the contest, leading all scorers. The tally was a personal best and career-high which included two three-point deposits. Sam Wood, Michael Young-Ward, and Luke Battey followed with nine, seven and six points, respectively. The victory put TSA in the championship game, where they played the Cabot Huskies who defeated the Craftsbury Chargers, 53-40, in the other first-round contest. For the second year in a row, the Sharon Academy was victorious in the championship round of the Cabot Tournament, where they defeated their tournament hosts, 65-46. Leading at the half, 32-22, the Phoenix managed to hold the Huskies to a 24-point third and fourth period combined tally, while they increased their lead with a 33-point second-half finish, for the win. Phoenix senior Luke Battey lead all scoring with 17 points, followed by Huskies Johnny Maxfield and Mike King with 16 and 13 points, respectively. Sharon’s Otto Pierce was next with 12 points, and teammate Sam Wood finished with 10 points. TSA now stands at 5-3 for the season. Sharon hosts Blue Mountain tomorrow and Concord on Monday, Jan. 21.
