Hafner Heading to Australia RUHS sophomore Chip Hafner, son of Ken and Martha Hafner of Randolph Center, has been invited to participate in a 19-day trip to Australia and New Zealand, as part of the People to People Ambassador Program, founded in 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. A Boy Scout since he began with the Tiger Cubs program in early elementary school, Hafner is a member of Troop #207 and was elected to membership in the Order of the Arrow, the Boy Scouting honor society. He plays baseball and soccer for RUHS and also works as a "techie" for the school’s drama department and at Chandler Music Hall. Hafner enjoys exploring the mechanical side of things and is a member of the FIRST Robotics Team #885, which will compete at the regional challenge meet in Manchester, N.H. February 28 and 29 and March 1. Fundraising for the People to People trip is occupying Hafner’s mind right now and he noted that he has a deposit spot for returnable bottles and cans set up at M & M Beverage on Salisbury St. in Randolph. He’s also selling magazines at www.supportourgroup.com/zm951 (a portion of the sales will benefit him), and Little Caesar’s pizza kits. The order deadline for the pizza kits is January 24, with delivery by January 30. To make an order, call Hafner at 728-4860. Hafner noted that although he has been to Canada, the only other long trip he’s taken was when he went to the National Boy Scout Jamboree in Virginia in 2005. He said he was honored to receive an invitation letter to join the People to People trip and is really looking forward to seeing another part of the world. Anyone who doesn’t have returnable bottle or cans, and doesn’t want to order magazines or pizza kits, but would still like to help Hafner reach his goal, is urged to send a donation to him at 3152 East Bethel Road, Randolph Center, Vt. 05061. ____________ |
