Richard Slappey

PALM SPRINGS, CALIF.—Richard B. Slappey, died December 27, 2007. He was born in Americus, Ga., and after a period of living in France, settled in Brookfield, where he lived for 31 years until he and his partner, Jim Gerard, retired to Palm Springs.

A graduate of the University of Georgia, he was co-founder of the Brookfield Publishing Company, later Ashgate USA of Brookfield. He will be remembered for his love of entertaining, theatre, film, music, gardening, traveling and cooking.

Survivors include his partner of 31 years, Jim Gerard; and his brother, Edwin D. Slappey, M.D.; his sister, Jane Kelley; and his father B.D. Slappey, all of Georgia.
