Randolph Boys Drop Two
By David Cooch

The Randolph Boys Basketball squad lost two games this past week, dropping their record to 1-2. Two games were canceled in the preceding week, and have been re-scheduled.

Mt. Abraham Game

Playing in their home opener on Saturday the 15th, the Ghosts took on the Division II defending state champions, Mt. Abraham. The Ghosts came out strong, rebounding well and keeping the score even. After a steal leading to a lay-up by Kyle Connolly, and a Jon White jump shot, Randolph found themselves down 22-20 in the second quarter. They were unable to continue the pace however, and were down by nine at halftime.

Needing to put a cap on turnovers, and increase their scoring, the boys came out looking to continue running with the defending champs. But due to a few early miscues they soon found themselves down double digits, and as the gap grew to nearly 20, Mt. Abraham closed out any hopes for the team.

The game ended with a score of 61-40. The JV lost their game as well.

U-32 Game

Randolph traveled up past Montpelier to face the U-32 Raiders on Tuesday the 18th, but came up short again. This time it was the first half in which Randolph struggled. Poor boxing out and turnovers were their largest problems, and U-32 was able to achieve an 11-point lead at the half.

The second half showed a much more aggressive, defensive minded squad, an attitude that also helped the offensive side as well. Randolph gritted the lead down to seven at the end of the third.

In the fourth quarter Randolph knew a victory was very possible, and looked to jump on the Raiders, who were not handling the increased pressure well. The lead was brought down to five points, a two possession game on several occasions, but never dipped below that margin. The game ended with a score of 48-40, dropping Randolph to a 1-2 record.

Jon White had a game-high 25 points, and sophomore Dylan Smith contributed nine to the tally. The JV lost their contest.

The boys play at home on Thursday the 10th against Oxbow; the more fans the better.
