French’s Remarks
Were Misleading

In Pat French’s letter to the editor of The Herald which appeared on December 6, he stated, "The costs for the two projects appear to be similar."

Having been on the Municipal Building Committee, he knows that DuBois & King’s March 27, 2005 estimated cost to remain at the present Summer Street location to be $1,260,700, which by moving to 24 Pleasant Street with a guaranteed price of $950,000, plus the $80,000 already spent on engineering, would save the town taxpayers $230,000. If the town were to sell the present Municipal Building at Summer Street for $150,000 it would cost $380,000 less for the town to relocate to 24 Pleasant Street.

These facts were not printed in The Herald.

With regard to his observations and remarks pertaining to green space, if the town stayed at Summer Street and renovated and added on to the existing Municipal Building, there would be very little green space left at the property with Summer Street on one side, the parking lot on the other side, and the building taking up most of the lawn area. At 24 Pleasant Street, there are trees and woods on two sides of the building with the Three Bean Café on another side and the Municipal Parking lot on the remaining side.

In light of the importance of this issue to the Town of Randolph, Pat French’s remarks were inaccurate, distorted and a misleading analysis.
