Randolph Wrestlers In St. J Tourney

On Saturday, Dec. 8 the Randolph Union High School wrestling team went to St. Johnsbury for an "Early Bird" Tournament. Wrestlers David Maxfield, Taylor Hold, and Matt Simpson did a great job.

Senior Maxfield wrestled Blake Nelson of Bow in the quarter finals and pinned Nelson in two minutes, 34 seconds in his first match. Maxfield then moved on to the semi-finals, wrestling Sam Mathews of St. Johnsbury, and pinned him in two minutes, 52 seconds. In Maxfield’s championship round, where he wrestled Mark Richardson, Maxfield took home the silver.

Senior Holt won his first round against Finley Miller of Harwood, with a pin-time of two minutes, 42 seconds. Holt lost his second round against Matt Therria of Rutland, moving on to another round, where he pinned John Richardson of New Found in two minutes, 47 seconds. Moving on to his last round, Holt lost against Steven Campbell of CVU.

Sophomore Mat Simpson won his first round against Austin Cleveland of Bow with a pin-time of one minute, five seconds, moving on to the next round, pinning Taylor Landry. Simpson moved on and lost against Brian Anderson of Nobel. Simpson moved up and won again against Jon Obryan of Essex, with a score of 10-0. Simpson lost his last round against Sherman Wood of CVU, taking home fourth place.

The wrestlers did a great job and have another meet in Essex Thursday, Dec. 13 and Saturday, Dec. 15 in Bow.
