CHELSEA—Luna A. Svarfvar, 94, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007 at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, after a period of failing health. She was born September 27, 1913 in Washington, the daughter of Charles W. and Laura H. (Colby) Eastman. She attended school in Washington and later in Chelsea, where she graduated from Chelsea High School in 1931. On April 1, 1939 she married Robert A. Svarfvar in Gardner, Mass. In July of 1939 they moved to Chelsea, to help run the Eastman Dairy Farm. In 1944, they purchased the farm and continued its operation together for 33 years. Since her v at the farm, until this last year, when she stayed with her daughter, Annie Grant in Barre. She was a hard-working farm wife, who enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, crocheting, cooking and baking, playing cards and family gatherings. Survivors include a son, Robert F. Svarfvar, and a daughter, Annie L. Grant, both of Barre; a sister, Charline Eastman of East Chelmsford, Mass.; seven granddaughters: Lisa (Grant) Rezaee and husband, Yadi, of Derry, N.H.; Laurie (Grant) Tatro and husband, Mark, of Barre; Deborah (Grant) Ordway and husband, Cal, of West Bolton; Susan Grant and fiancé, Jason Adams, of Waterbury Center; Robin Svarfvar, Penny (Svarfvar) Farrell and husband, John, and Tammi (Svarfvar) Giannoni and husband, Paul, all of Barre Town; eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; a sister, Elsie Nichols; and six brothers: Harold Eastman, Charles Eastman Sr., George Eastman, Pearl Eastman, Laurence Eastman and Raymond Eastman. There were no public calling hours. A funeral service was held Sunday, Dec. 9 at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home on Main Street in Chelsea, with Rev. Jonathan MacKenzie officiating. He read remembrances from the granddaughters entitled, "A Day in the Life of Gram." Burial took place at the Highland Cemetery in Chelsea. The bearers were Yadi Rezaee, Mark Tatro, Jason Adams, John Farrell, Paul Giannoni and Dustin Barnett. A time of fellowship and refreshment, at the Chelsea Town Hall, followed the burial.
