Lady Ghosts Drop Season Opener By Hannah Becker The Lady Ghosts played their home opener against Mt. Abraham on Tuesday and the night ended in a rough loss for the Ghosts. Mt. Abe came back to win the game, 55-37. The Ladies were excited and ready to play when the game started. They controlled the floor, with the score 9-0 Randolph, after six minutes of play with baskets from Gwen Reis, Ashley Chase and Arielle Connolly. The Ghosts held Mt. Abe scoreless until there was just 1:59 left in the first quarter. But Mt. Abe ended the quarter on a 3-pointer at the buzzer, giving their team something to be excited about. Yet again the Ghosts came out strong in the second quarter. They played tough defense and controlled the boards. At the end of the quarter, Mt. Abe started to press the Ghosts, causing the Ladies a bit of panic. Randolph was able to relax and finish strong. The half ended with the Ghosts up 24-17. The Lady Ghosts came out flat in the beginning of the second half. They had a hard time breaking Mt. Abe’s press, allowing the Eagles to outscore them 14-7 in the third quarter, tying the game at 31 apiece. The game remained tight, until about three minutes into the fourth quarter, when the Ghosts started losing ground. They had many players in foul trouble and Mt. Abe was in the bonus very early. The Ghosts kept up the pressure and did a good job making their foul shots at the end, keeping them in the game. Unfortunately, the ladies couldn’t make up the difference, and lost the game 55-37. High scorers were G. Reis with 14 and Chase with seven. The Ghosts play again Thursday and Saturday at Spaulding tournament and then play again next Wednesday at Northfield. |
