RUHS Varsity Boys Pre-Season

By David Cooch

The Randolph Galloping Ghosts boys’ basketball squad is back in action this year, with returning players and some new faces. The team has been on the court since November 12, and is hoping for a successful season.

There are four seniors coming back for a final season at Randolph this year. Guards David Cooch and Josh Ferris will play in the back court, while forward Kyle Connolly and center Thomas Jacobs will be in the front. Also returning this season is junior Jon White, a starter from last year. Sophomore Dylan Smith has made the cut and will be playing at the guard position. Juniors Sam Lyons, Nik Bent, Andrew McClure, Jason Hicks and Pat Lucenti join the squad this year, as well as junior foreign exchange student Christoph Respondek. Head coach Bruce Viens guides the team, as well as assistant coach Jeremy Rilling.

The team is ready to perform well this year, but has several obstacles to overcome. They lack size—especially with honorable-mention senior Thomas Jacobs sidelined for at least half the season with a shoulder injury— and will have to be very physical to keep other teams off the boards. They know, however, that they are capable of doing that, and look to surprise a few teams this year.

The Ghosts open their season December 4 away at Northfield, and play their home opener the following Tuesday against Mill River. The game starts at 7:30 p.m., and junior varsity starts at 6 p.m. Come out and support them!
