Kathryn Martin

SOUTH TUNBRIDGE—Kathryn "Kitty" E. Martin, 80, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2007 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.

She was born September 10, 1927 in East Putney, the daughter of Guy and Mildred (Kingsbury) Finney. She attended school in Plymouth, and then at Woodstock High School. She would later complete her high school education and receive her G.E.D.

When she was 17, she married Emanuel "Lucky" Martin in White River Jct. She raised her family and worked for G. W. Plastics in Bethel. In 1957, they moved to Tunbridge. Her husband was a very active member of the Tunbridge community, holding several town positions, including serving as the first Chief of the Tunbridge Fire Department. She was also busy working and supporting many community functions.

Her husband died July 20, 1991. For the next five years, she drove a bus for Stagecoach in Randolph. Later she drove a cab for the New Face Taxi Service.

She was a member of the Chelsea Area Senior Citizens and volunteered numerous hours, delivering Meals-On-Wheels to area seniors. She also volunteered time driving for the Vermont Blind Association. She loved to sing and took part in local choirs, and the Tunbridge Civic Club’s annual Minstrel Show. She also enjoyed painting, working in her flower gardens, going to the ocean in Maine, and visiting with her family and friends.

Survivors include three sons: David R. Martin of Springfield, Daniel R. Martin of Putney, and Tim R. Martin of South Royalton; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband; a son, Guy R. Martin; and a brother, Earl Allard.

Calling hours were held Tuesday, Nov. 27 at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home in Chelsea. A funeral service was held Wednesday, Nov. 28 at the funeral home. Burial took place at the Village Cemetery in Tunbridge.
