S.R. Thanksgiving Party
Provides 250 Dinners

For the tenth year running, volunteers in South Royalton put on a massive Thanksgiving feast for community members who might not have gotten turkey otherwise.

Organizer Marilyn Labadie said about 100 people ate a communal dinner at the Chase Center at the Vermont Law School. Additionally, volunteers delivered about 150 meals to homebound seniors.

Volunteers worked for three days preparing the food, using kitchens at the United Church, the SoRo House Restaurant, and the law school.

Local farmers, businesses, and community members donated the food: hundreds of pounds of potatoes, squash, peas, and carrots, gallons of cranberry sauce, and dozens of pies. And of course lots of turkey. Leftovers were donated to local food shelves.

Labadie said she was gratified to see so many people help make the dinner happen.

"It was wonderful," she said.
