A Merry Weekend in Randolph Will Feature Fantasy Parade

If it walks on four legs it might be in the Randolph Fantasy Parade on Saturday! (Herald / Bob Eddy)

The holiday season will kick off in Randolph this weekend with the annual Fantasy Parade on Main Street Saturday, Dec. 1 at 1 p.m., sponsored by the Randolph Area Chamber of Commerce.

With Tom Harty as MC, highlights of the parade will include Leigh Johnston’s team of Haflingers from Campton, N.H., which will carry Santa and Mrs. Claus, the talented and formally-attired "Pooper Scooper" on roller blades, sponsored by Randolph National Bank; Bethel’s Green Mountain Gallopers 4-H Club’s mini horses, plus Morgans and many riders, buggies and walkers. There is still time to enter the parade.

Judges Pam and Jim Yerrington and Nan Gwin will award winners in six categories, including most beautiful, funniest, best group, best Currier and Ives costume, most original, and the judges’ favorite. All participants and workers are invited to the awards ceremony at the Randolph Elementary School. Refreshments will be served by the Mid-State Riding Club of Randolph.

The Chamber is grateful to Lorrie Churchill and the Mid-State Riding Club, who organize and run the parade. To enter the parade or help, call Churchill at 276-3385. Any decision concerning cancellation due to weather will be made by 7:30 a.m. that day. If in doubt, call 276-3385 or 802-272-8517.

Everyone is also urged to gather at the Gazebo on Main St. Saturday at 6 p.m. to sing carols, take a mitten from the Holly Jolly Project’s mitten tree (see separate article in this section) and enjoy the Festival of Lights as Ken Goss flips the switch and Main Street lights up to welcome the holiday season.

Another event that is promoting a festive season by encouraging bright holiday decorations is the Randolph Area Business Committee’s Decorating Contest for residences and businesses (see entry form in this paper).

The Randolph Area Holiday Shopping Promotion (see ad in gift supplement) brings local merchants into the celebration. Look for Gingerbread People Posters in store windows and get your cards stamped with each $5 purchase. Place the completed cards in the drawing boxes at Dandelion Acres or Randolph National Bank for five weekly prize drawings.

The first drawing will be Friday, Nov. 30 and there will also be Grand Prize drawings for a log porch swing, bowling games, a Herald subscription, specialty book, gift basket, and a Black & Decker Storm Station.
