Anne Lawson

BETHEL- Anne Norway Lawson, 86, died Thursday morning, November 1, 2007 at Birchwood Terrace Nursing Home in Burlington.

She was born March 30, 1921 in New York City, the daughter of Clarence and Helen (Morrison) Dobbs, and was raised by her uncle and aunt, William and Jessie Norway in Newport Center. She graduated from Newport Center High School, and married Donald Lawson in Newport Center July 30, 1941. She moved to Bethel in 1964, and finally to Joslyn House in Randolph in 2001. Her husband died in 1992.

She had worked as a telephone operator in Bethel, in various secretarial positions, and finally at Ultramotive. She enjoyed reading and gardening, and was a member of the Miller Memorial Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Association for Reseach & Enlightenment, and the Vermont Association for Retarded Children.

Survivors include her son, Roger A. Lawson of Hinesburg; four daughters: Judith Fisk of Barre, Kristina Clifford of North Pomfret, Virginia Lawson of Randolph, and Deborah Sisco of Ashburn, Va.; a sister, June Denton of Massachusetts; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her grandson, Oak Clifford; brothers, Bruce Dobbs, Lynn Norway, and Cecil Norway; and a sister, Audrey Page.

Memorial services were held Monday, morning, Nov. 5 at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph, with Pastor Richard Dumont officiating. Phyllis Hawley was the organist. Remembrances were shared by her daughter, Kristina, and grandson, Jesse. Burial followed at the Newport Center Cemetery, with Rev. Richard Whitehill, officiating.
