Randolph-Shizukuishi Exchange

Community Sharing Nov. 8

Last June, 12 seventh and eighth grade students from Randolph Union High School traveled with two teacher chaperones to Shizukuishi, Japan to visit their "sister-school" and to experience Japanese culture by living with a host family.

Tonight, Thursday, Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m., the community is invited to come hear RUHS student ambassadors share what the trip to Japan meant to them at Randolph Union High School’s Media Center, when the students host a free community sharing event.

This exchange program ties in with the middle school GLADCOW (geography, language arts, and diverse cultures of our world) curriculum. Upon their return to school in September, the student ambassadors prepared and delivered a presentation for the current seventh and eighth graders that included Japanese clothing, Japanese language, anecdotes from the trip, a power-point slideshow put to music, and a question and answer period. Their peers were enthralled by what their colleagues shared. It is this presentation that the students would like to share with the community. The exchange is made possible by the support of the Braintree, Brookfield and Randolph communities and beyond.

Parents of current sixth, seventh and eighth grade students in the Orange Southwest School District (Braintree, Brookfield, and Randolph) are particularly encouraged to attend. Another part of the Randolph-Shizukuishi Exchange Project includes hosting 12 Japanese students in family homes each year. This evening is a heads-up for some opportunities happening at RUHS and beyond.
