Playoff Loss For Gal Ghosts By Hannah Becker The Randolph Gal Ghosts finished their season with a record of 5-8-1, and were ranked 12th. Randolph traveled to the fifth seat Burr & Burton on Tuesday for the first round of playoffs. It was a very wet and rainy day, but the Ghosts were ready to play. The first half of the game was played mostly in midfield. Randolph came out very strong. They were aggressive, and they played smart. The Gal Ghosts had four shots but were not able to put the ball into the net. The Ghosts’ biggest problem in the first half was giving Burr & Burton corner and indirect kicks. Early in the first half was a play Coach Bruce Viens has only seen twice in his 20 years of coaching. After a call that a Randolph defender played the ball back to the goalie, there was an indirect kick inside the six, but the Ghosts did a great job keeping the ball out of the net. The half ended with the game tied 0-0. The second half came with a slow start from Randolph. Burr & Burton controlled most of the first 20 minutes of the half. But Randolph held them off for awhile, with only two offensive chances in the half. With 17:06 left in the game, C. Cornell of Burr & Burton scored in an eerie repeat of last year’s game. The Ghosts played strong for the remainder of the game, but again, couldn’t find the back of the net. The Ghosts lost the well-fought battle 1-0. Ghosts’ goalie Eric Webber had 11 saves in the game. There will be a fall sport awards night for all fall sport athletes on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. ____________ |
