RUHS Cross Country

The RUHS cross country runners had a strong league meet at Lamoille on Tuesday, Oct. 9.

The Randolph junior high boys’ cross country race belonged to Logan Whitcomb, with teammates Josh Blanchard earning sixth and Ryan Maxfield finishing strong in 34th. Logan took the lead early in the 2.25 mile race against runners from a dozen other schools, and never looked back, taking first place for Randolph in 15 minutes, 26 seconds.

For the junior high girls, Annie Hutchinson finished third in 16:50. Katie Giles was 11th. Samantha Johnson and Nina Listro also finished strong.

In the high school boys’ race, a generous 5k, which was closer to 5.2k, Dillon Gast placed 42nd out of 85-plus runners in 23:26. Tyler LaFreniere and Ethan Barrett helped each other to finish in 26.5 minutes.

In the high school girls’ race, Sami Merrill and Katie Sault paced each other on the rough, hilly course, catching rivals from Norhtfield and Oxbow and finishing in 28:46 and 28:47, respectively.

Peoples Invitational

The Randolph runners showed impressive results at Saturday’s Peoples Invitational . In the junior high boys’ race, a 3k, Whitcomb was 12th ; Josh Blanchard 13th with a new personal best of 11 minutes, 30 seconds; and Maxfield finished in a new personal best at 14:39.

Against runners from nearly 20 other schools, the junior high girls brought home the second place plaque, outrun by just one point to Stowe. Hutchinson ran a new personal best of 12:16 for sixth; Giles placed ninth in her best, a 12:26; Johnson was 13th, Isabelle Cone 16th and Listro 18th. Cone, Listro and teammates Tiffany Gast and Rose Earl also ran new best times.

In the JV boys’ race, Ethan Barrett and LaFreniere also paced each other to new best times in the 5k, finishing in 22:32 and 22:23.

Gast ran in the varsity boys’ race and finished in a new personal best of 19 minutes, 58 seconds, an improvement of nearly four minutes since last year and 40 seconds faster than his previous best time.

All the runners look forward to participating in the NVAC Championships on Friday, the last meet for the racing Galloping Ghosts.
