‘Laramie Project’
Shows Real Life

On Sunday I went to see the White River Valley Players' production of The Laramie Project. I wasn't sure what to expect and I was a little wary of the subject matter, expecting a play about the aftermath of a murder to be only serious and sad.

I was happily surprised to discover an extremely well-done play that covers the full spectrum of emotion, including sad parts as expected but also including laugh-out-loud funny lines and hopeful moments that anyone who is part of a "town" community should see.

The play is not violent (as some have wrongly assumed) and the stories told in the Laramie townspeople's own words are artfully woven together. It's wonderful to see a play written about real people and real events—I could identify with almost every character and could connect each to a local equivalent!

The play includes swearing, so it's not for children, but anyone over the age of 12 will benefit from the thoughtful portrayal of a town in the wake of a major crime. Perhaps we could all learn a thing or two from the people of Laramie. There are two more performances left—Friday, Oct. 19, and Saturday, Oct. 20, at 7:30 p.m. Don't miss this opportunity to see a meaningful play that will change the way you think about the world!
