Northfield Artist’s Paintings On Display at Gifford Gallery "Colors of Autumn," a show of work by Kathrena Ravenhorst-Adams, a freelance artist from Northfield, will be on display in the Gifford Medical Center Gallery through Nov. 21. Her Gifford show includes mostly watercolors and oils depicting nature and Vermont landscapes. "I wish through my art to celebrate the wonder and beauty of nature, to call attention to its intricate details, infinite variety, power and fragility," Ravenhorst-Adams says. Educated at Mary Baldwin College and then the graduate program at Vermont College of Norwich University, Ravenhorst-Adams studied watercolor under Mitsue Elston of Harford County, Md., exhibiting extensively with the Harford Artists Association in both group and one-woman exhibitions. She has also exhibited, led workshops and been published in Massachusetts. In Vermont, she has taught classes in watercolor painting, nature drawing and ink sketching; and participated in many exhibitions, including the Vermont Institute of Natural Science annual wildlife art show. She has been active in the Barre Paletteers; held one-woman exhibits of her art, illustrated a book, "Bouncy Bunny’s Birthday: A Family Story About Bravery" by Cathy Brown and Debi Paterson, and provided illustrations for Vermont newspaper articles on nature subjects. "My expression of nature through art reflects the joy and peace and beauty of the natural world and my concern for it under the hand of humankind," says Ravenhorst-Adams, noting details of nature and Vermont landscapes remain her favorite subjects. "It is my hope that, through my art, others may gain a similar appreciation for all of creation and realize and accept their responsibility for the care and protection of it." To see Ravenhorst-Adams’ work in the Gifford Gallery, visit the hospital at 44 S. Main St. in Randolph. The gallery is just inside the main entrance, to the left. ____________ |
