It was a disappointing week for the Hornet boys as they dropped three games in a row while on the road, to Sharon, Plainfield, and Williamstown. At TSA the Hornets were unable to stop or contain their Phoenix hosts, who scored six unanswered goals in the 6-0 shutout loss. At Twinfield, the Trojans didn’t shut out the Hornets, but they did beat them handily, 5-1. Fifteen minutes in, Riley Tarl’s pass to Brendan Popp got things started. Whitcomb tied the game 13 minutes later, when Dan Noel scored. A penalty kick at minute 37 put the Trojans ahead, where they remained. While Whitcomb remained scoreless, Trojans Chet Trol, Chris Link and Royal Healy all added goals in the second half of the contest. Mike Domey and Royal Healy combined for five saves, and Joel Wright made 13. Billstown Game At Williamstown, Whitcomb managed to stay in the game all through the first half. The Blue Devils took the lead just four minutes in, when Cody Hodgson assisted Carson Richards for the first deposit of the game. But just 30 seconds later, the Hornets tied the game on a Clemens Garve goal. Garve put the Hornets up 2-1 in the seventh minute, but Williamstown answered and retied the game when James Farnham took a Hodgson pass all the way in. A penalty kick by Hodgson at 15 gave the Blue Devils the lead back before Garve hat-tricked the Hornets back to a tie at 35 minutes. Just one minute later, Farnham retook the lead for the Blue Devils, 4-1. at the half. Farnham assisted Carson Richards three minutes back for the final goal of the 6-3 game. Along with the six goals, Williamstown also collected six yellow cards and one red card in a game. Williamstown coach Jeff Cochran said, "It’s a game that will be talked about for quite a while." Both Blue Devil goalie Nick DuBois and Hornet Joel Wright made 16 saves apiece. Whitcomb hosts the Chelsea Red Devils tomorrow on Senior Recognition Day and finishes the season Tuesday, Oct. 16, in South Ryegate at Blue Mountain Union against the Bucks. ____________ |
