RANDOLPH—Edward J. Whitbread Jr., 82, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007 at Birchwood Terrace Healthcare in Burlington. He was born September 14, 1925 in Brooklyn, N.Y. the son of Edward and Rose (Matthews) Whitbread. He attended New York schools and graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in 1943. Following his education, he went to work as a messenger for Photochrome in New York. He served with the U. S. Army, in Korea, during World War II. After his discharge from the service he returned home to New York and back to work at Photochrome. He married Charlotte Demino November 12, 1950 in New York. In 1955 they moved to Fairfield, Conn. when Photochrome moved to Bridgeport, Conn. and became Chemical Color Plate. He later moved to Monroe, Conn. He married Robin Weed February 12, 1977 in Westport, Conn. Following his retirement as general manager of Chemical Color Plate in 1986, the Whitbreads moved to Randolph. In earlier years, he enjoyed hunting. He also enjoyed walking in the woods with his dogs, and gardening. He was an artist who liked doing charcoal sketches and making pottery. He was a past member of the Monroe (Conn.) Rod & Gun Club. Survivors include his wife, Robin Whitbread of Randolph; three sons: Robert Whitbread of Fairfield, Conn.; Thomas Whitbread and his wife, Kathleen, of Clinton, Conn.; and Michael Whitbread of Boston, Mass.; two sisters, Rosemary Carroll of Roselle Park, N.J.; and Elizabeth Buttle of Staten Island, N.Y.; and three grandchildren: Matthew Whitbread, Samuel Whitbread and Allyson Currier. Memorial services were held Saturday, Oct. 6, at Bethany United Church of Christ in Randolph. Rev. Kathy Eddy officiated. Tom Whitbread shared stories and remembrances of his father. Marilyn Polson was the organist. A time of fellowship and refreshments followed the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethany United Church of Christ, Main St., Randolph, Vt. 05060; or to the Alzheimer’s Assn., 172 N. Main St., Barre, Vt. 05641.
