In last week’s Herald on the front page was an interesting article titled "Classical Music Lovers Up in Arms." I’ve been hearing this disgruntled group and reading other papers’ letters to the editors. For many years Walter Parker and Kate Remmington of the VPR classical music section were my solace. First Kate left and now Walter is missing, both replaced by more talk shows. It seems that folks might do well to think for themselves rather than listen to others going on about well-worn subjects. VPR’s classical station is very hard to receive and the classical style aired is not the same, in my opinion. But, now take heart! Also in the Herald, I direct your attention to section B page 4, and editorial "Ken Squier Is Top Citizen." I discovered one of Radio Vermont Group’s stations, WCVT 101.7 FM, a couple of years ago. I was so pleased that I withdrew my pledge for VPR and sent it to this group. Ken Squier wrote that they didn’t take funds, rather rely on their advertisers (and there aren’t too many music interruptions) so he would do something else with my gift. A letter later on said that they had decided to pass that gift on to the Vermont Symphony Orchestra. 101.7 FM is hard to receive in our valley, but well worth the struggle to try. It is so good that I just turn the radio down at night, not off. Twenty-four hours of delightful classical music! Maybe if the disgruntled all plead, WCVT will be able to increase their output!
