Following their 4-1 road loss to the Rochester Rockettes last Tuesday, the Hornets traveled to Cabot and returned to the win column with a resounding 5-0 shutout victory over the Huskies. Once again, it was a Molly Taylor kind of day. Taylor collected one assist, two assisted goals and two unassisted goals in the outing. Taylor scored the first and only goal of the first half off an Emily Durkee feed. She followed that with an assist to Brittany Flint, who nabbed her third goal of the season and then proceeded to tally two unassisted deposits before netting her final goal with help from Virginia Wortman. Laurel Adams made 11 saves in the outing. Loss to Phoenix The home field advantage became a disadvantage as the Phoenix upset the Hornets in their backyard with a 1-0 shutout on Tuesday. With both teams scoreless after one, it was TSA who was able to control the ball and the game upon returning from the break. Whitcomb struggled to keep TSA away from the goals to no avail, as the Phoenix Ladies managed to move past the defense taking more than a dozen shots which forced Hornet goalie Laurel Adams to shoulder the action. Adams was able to stop all but one of the shots that TSA delivered. Sharon scored off an Ada DeFriez cross to Heather Skehan which Skehan toed in just over the head of Adams. Whitcomb stepped up the pace in an effort to tie the game, but TSA managed to sub in and out fluently, and kept one step ahead of the Hornets, running the clock out for the victory. Whitcomb travels to Newport Saturday to face the United Christian Academy Crusaders and travels to Concord on Monday, Oct. 8, to face the Wildcats. Saturday’s game is at 11:00. ____________ |
