Christine Laffan

ROCHESTER—Christine Lary Laffan, 83, died peacefully September 26, 2007, at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, after a short illness.

She was born September 2, 1924, in Rochester, the daughter of the late Wilbur and Ethel (Flanders) Lary.

She graduated from Rochester High School in 1942 as the valedictorian of her class. She attended Rutland Business College and was employed at Weyerhaeuser Company in Hancock for more than 25 years.

She married Gerald James "Pete" Laffan in 1948. He died in 1981.

Her passions included music and solving crossword puzzles, and her TV favorites were "All in the Family," "Everybody Loves Raymond," and "Sex in the City." She was a life-long fan of the Boston Red Sox and was in attendance at the final game of the 1967 "Impossible Dream" season at Fenway Park when the Red Sox won the pennant.

She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Harold H. Lary; and a son, Lary Laffan.

Survivors include her brother, Hubert Lary of Rochester; four sons, Bruce of Colchester, Craig of Essex Junction, Kurt of Albuquerque, N.M., and Ross of Rochester; a daughter-in-law, Donna Laffan; and several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held on Sunday, Sept. 30, at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Rochester. Friends are invited to gather at 12:30 p.m. at Fellowship Hall of the Rochester Federated Church.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Garden Room Fund, in care of Gifford Medical Center, Attn: Ashley Lincoln, PO Box 2000, Randolph, Vt., 05060.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home of Randolph.
