The South Royalton boys (4-10) suffered their first defeat Thursday night, Sept. 13 against Green Mountain Valley, falling 4-2. GMV opened the scoring early in the first half, capitalizing on a free kick from the right side. Royal Tyler Manning answered with a rocket to the upper right from 30 yards out. GMV held the lead going into the second half after scoring on a scramble late in the first. SoRo came out strong to open the second. GMV was well pressed to stop them from finding the back of the net. The defense was finally penetrated by Ki Walker, who beat the GMV’s keeper to the left side to score the equalizer. The tide of the game had clearly turned in favor of SoRo, but they failed to finish their numerous chances, while GMV capitalized on theirs. A direct kick by GMV with three minutes left gave them the 3-2 lead. South Royalton, however, could not score the equalizer and fell 4-2 after a penalty kick was awarded to GMV with one second remaining. The final result was not a clear indicator of the level of competition. South Royalton looks to bounce back. ____________ |
