Christopher Junker

WEST BROOKFIELD—Christopher Brand Junker, 38, died at home Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, at 7:15 p.m., after a long battle with cancer.

He was born at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.Y., on September 16, 1969, the son of Reynold and Holley (Henning) Junker. He later moved to Sacramento, Calif., where he attended Rio Americano High School. His education continued at the University of California at Berkeley (BFA in Ethnic Studies) and Harvard University (MA in Theology), and at the time of his death, he was pursuing a doctorate in psychology from Antioch University.

His professional career was marked by a commitment to service and outreach, which included positions as Director of Chaplaincy at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph and Mount Ascutney Medical Center in Windsor. Concurrent with his academic and professional careers, he had broad volunteer and public service experience that took him around the world serving as a project manager for Habitat for Humanity, program director for Loaves and Fishes Homeless Service in Sacramento, a volunteer with At-One-Ment Associates in Kingston, Jamaica; and counselor at the LaChaim Residential Treatment Center in Richmond, Calif.

Survivors include his wife, Robin Kramich Junker, and his two sons, Fritz (age four) and Ulysses (six months); also his father, Reynold Junker; his sister, Karen; brother, Eric; and many from his strong community of friends.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m. at Bethany United Church of Christ in Randolph. A reception will follow. There are no calling hours.
