Dale L. Gates

SIERRA VISTA, ARIZ.—Dale L. Gates, (TSGT, USAF, retired), 72, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007 at the Sierra Vista Regional Health Center. He had been a resident of Sierra Vista, Ariz. for 23 years.

He was born September 13, 1935 in Barre, to George Freedom and Lyra Maxine (Roberts) Gates. He grew up in Chelsea and Royalton. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Army and retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Tech Sergeant. He retired from civil service in 1994 from Fort Huachuca, Ariz.

On August 26, 1967 he married Carolyn A. Heidner in Newport, N.H. He was a member of the Marine Corps Wild West Detachment of Tombstone, Ariz. and the Huachuca Hiking Club and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Sierra Vista, Ariz.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Carolyn of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; a son, George A. and his wife, Tiffany Gates, of Chandler, Ariz.; a brother, Stacey M. Gates of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, and one brother, Don Gates.

A memorial service took place Friday, Sept. 21 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Sierra Vista, Ariz., with Father Victor Sarrazin as the celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The St. Stephen’s Building Fund, 2750 Cardinal Drive, Sierra Vista, Ariz., 85635 or to The Wounded Warrior Center, c/o Wounded Warrior Battalion West, P.O. Box 555192, Camp Pendleton, Calif. 92055.

Arrangements are by the Hatfield Funeral Home in Sierra Vista, Ariz.
