Dogs Allowed
To Run Loose

I want to applaud the Town Manager and the board of selectmen for tackling the dog issue in our town. It is time this issue received some serious attention.

I have lived in Randolph for two years. I walk with my dog on a leash (on sidewalk or in the street) almost every day from Central Street to the hospital hill area and everywhere in between.

I can not tell you how many times dogs have charged out of their yard on to street barking and snarling, no owner in sight. I have often gone back later to talk to the dog’s owner.

The dog owner always says, "My dog won’t hurt you, she’s just being friendly." Unfortunately, there is no way to be sure when that dog is running down the street toward you.

I walk my dog on a leash and keep her securely in my yard so she is not a bother to my neighbors or sidewalk users. I feel that all dog owners should be equally responsible. We should be able to walk anywhere in our town without unwanted interactions with someone's dog.

So whether you own a pitt bull or a chihuahua, being in control of your dog at all times is part of the responsibility you assume with dog ownership. Take care of your dogs, they deserve it.
