Despite having just 10 players, the Chelsea Red Devils boys’ soccer team came away with a 4-2 win last Saturday against Cabot. Cabot gave Chelsea a scare when they scored off a shot outside the 18 in the opening minutes of the game. However a few minutes later Jim Welch scored off a cross from Evan Tullar to tie the game at one apiece. Chelsea then struck again off a deflected corner kick from Joe Bonasera to give the Red Devils a 2-1 lead. Chelsea maintained possession of the ball throughout the first half. Then, a few minutes later, Bonasera struck again off a free kick outside the 18 to increase the lead by two goals. However Cabot wasn’t ready to go down. Cabot struck again to cut Chelsea’s lead by one. The score remained 3-2 heading into halftime. Just a few minutes into the second half, Cabot was called for a foul in the 18 and Chelsea was rewarded a penalty kick. Once again senior captain Bonasera came through scoring his third goal, giving Chelsea a 4-2 win. Loss to Raptors The Chelsea boys suffered a 4-1 loss to the Rivendell Raptors last week. With only 11 players, Chelsea was playing strong, controlling most possessions. About 10 minutes into the half, Welch scored off a cross from Tullar to give Chelsea a 1-0 lead. The score remained that way until a few minutes into the second half. Fatigue became a factor for Chelsea, and Rivendell kept on scoring. The final score was 4-1. 7-0 Loss The Chelsea boys suffered a 7-0 loss Tuesday, Sept. 11, against Blue Mountain. In the opening minutes of the game, it looked like it was going to be a good game, until Blue Mountain scored 10 minutes in. From there on out, the Bucks kept on rolling. By halftime, the score was 4-0, Blue Mountain. Chelsea had multiple attempts on score, and had an indirect kick that deflected off the post. However fatigue became a problem for Chelsea, with only 11 players, and Blue Mountain tacked on another three goals. Charlie Jobin led Blue Mountain with three goals and an assist while Shane O’Donnell-Leach scored one goal and added two assists, Ryan Rowden, CJ Smith and Mike Johns all recorded goals. ____________ |
