Commerce Sec'y Dorn Attends RACDC Mtg.

Vermont's Secretary of Commerce and Community Development, Kevin Dorn, will be guest speaker at the annual meeting of the Randolph Area Community Development Corp.

This is the first time in recent years that RACDC has engaged a guest speaker, and new executive director, Julie Iffland hopes the public will turn out in numbers next Monday, Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Old Dorm at VTC.

"We hope it will generate some additional interest in the meeting and give us a chance to familiarize him more with our work, which is so often assisted by his agency," she said.

The meeting will also feature desserts and entertainment followed by a brief business meeting and an award presentation.

Before the meeting Dorn will be taken on a tour of the proposed Salisbury Square housing project location on Salisbury Street, said Iffland.

The business meeting will include an update on the Salisbury Square project.

Members will also be asked to ratify changes to the organizations's bylaws. The changes "are mostly to clarify the council and committee structure to conform with updates voted on by the board this year," Iffland said.

Dorn has been agency secretary since the beginning of the Douglas Administration in January, 2003, acting as the administration's key spokesperson for economic affairs and housing.

The departments within his purview include: Department of Economic Development, Department of Fousing and Community Affairs, Department of Tourism and Marketing, Vermont Life Magazine, and the Division for Historic Preservation.

His previous job had been 10 years as executive director of the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Northern Vermont. He had also been a Congressional lobbyist for Fairchild Industries and General Aviation Manufacturers.

Dorn was born in Ohio and raised in Minnesota, where he served as a staff assistant to U. S. Sen. David Durenberger.
