Bond Info Meeting
Is Next Monday
By Sara Nelson

The RUHS school board will hold a special meeting on Monday to review the final proposal for the upcoming building repair and renovation.

After a presentation by Black River Design and the facilities committee, the board is expected to vote whether to go ahead with a Nov. 6 bond vote on what is now a $12-million project.

According to committee member Bill Sugarman, the proposal was chosen from an original list of over 10 potential renovation packages.

Sugarman said the plan includes three "absolutely necessary" improvements: re-roofing, fire and safety updates, and handicap accessibility.

Along with these, Sugarman said the committee is recommending a few additional improvements, such as electrical work and an improved lighting system, that will be cost effective to complete at the same time.

Sugarman said the board has been working on a renovation plan for close to four years.

"At one point we were told these repairs would cost "26 million. At that time we went back to the drawing board, and eventually came up with the plan we’re proposing now," he explained.

If the board does approve of the plans, then there will be a formal public presentation prior to the bond vote. However, Monday’s meeting will also be a good opportunity for members of the public to learn about the plan and offer any input they may have, Sugarman said.

The meeting will be held at 5 p.m. in the RUHS Media Center on Monday, Sept. 24.
