Sammis to Town: Realtor and developer Jesse ("Sam") Sammis wasted no time in asking the town to reconsider the idea of putting the town offices in the former Randolph Cooperative Market on Pleasant Street. Sammis bought the property out of bankruptcy two weeks ago, and in a letter to the selectboard this week he offered the building to the town for the same price he bought it for. The letter said, in part: "I recently contracted to purchase the Co-op portion of 24 Pleasant Street, totaling 7,500 square feet, at a purchase price of $300,000 ($40 per square foot). "I am writing to offer the property to the Town of Randolph for my purchase price of $300,000 to be used for the Municipal Offices and any other Town Facilities. I feel this would solve the problems of a new location for the Municipal Building. "24 Pleasant Street has excellent parking, both on-site and in the adjoining public parking lot. I know the Town would have to make leasehold improvements to improve the space, however I am sure that the final cost when completed would be far less than building a new building in the present location… "I look forward to hearing your response at your earliest convenience, because if you are not interested, I want to move forward with finding other tenants for the building." |
