Swingtime Canteen Sarabeth Hamberlin, daughter of Larry Hamberlin and Cynthia Huard of Rochester, is one of the stars of the Middlebury Community Players' production of "Swingtime Canteen." A recreation of a 1944 USO show at the front during World War II, "Swingtime Canteen" fondly looks back to a time universally heralded as America's finest hour. As the show opens, after 17 years with MGM, still-glamorous movie legend Marian Ames and her friends are entertaining the troops, singing over 30 vintage classics from the World War II era. Laughs, tears, emotional fireworks, air raids and a celebration of women during the war punctuate the story. Songs include "I'll Be Seeing You," "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square," "Sentimental Journey," "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" and many more. Directed by Douglas Anderson, with musical direction by Lindi Bortney, the show is produced by Algy Layden and Dora Greven. Along with Hamberlin, the cast features Meg Guilfoy, Nikki Juvan, L. Rae Powell, and Liz Cleveland, accompanied by an all-female chorus of eight and a five-woman band. Performances will take place at Holley Hall on Main Street in Bristol, September 27 and 28 at 8 p.m. There will also be performances at the Town Hall Theater in Middlebury Saturday, Sept. 29 at 5:30 p.m., when there will be a gala dinner and performance to benefit the Town Hall Theater; as well as Sunday, Sept. 30 at 2 p.m., October 4, 5 and 6 at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available through Town Hall Theater Box Office at 802-382-9222. ____________ | |||||
