Tough Opening For Boy Hornets By Laurie-Jean B. Gauthier The Sharon Academy proved to be too much for Whitcomb as the Hornets lost to their guests on Monday, Sept 10. TSA scored six unanswered goals in the contest that was damp and drizzly. First it was an unassisted deposit by Colin Pope. Next came a Hannes Fischer-Byrne goal of a Bobby Farrell assist, Danny Moore and Michael Young-Ward combined for a Moore goal followed by Young-Ward’s first-of-two goals off a Fischer-Byrne helper. That all happened during the first 40 minutes of play. Will Seymour’s goal came off an assist for Colin Pope and the scoring ended with Young-Ward’s second goal off a Seymour assist. It was a save-free outing for netter Brad Farrell. Joel Wright was in the net for Whitcomb. It would have been a seventh goal game with minutes left, but a well-positioned Adam Sennett was "in the right place at the right time" for the deny where it was nothing but a jumble of players in front of the Hornet goalie. Whitcomb faces a long break as they are game-less until Tuesday, Sept. 18. The Sharon Academy now stands at 3-1 with the victory. Loss to Trojans The Hornets welcomed the Twinfield Trojans to Bethel last Friday, but it wasn’t meant to be, as the Hornets lost to their guests 4-1. Just three minutes into the game Ryan Copping assisted Addison Powers for the quick Trojan coup. A penalty kick by Chet Tyrol at 25:00 netted Twinfield their second goal. Twinfield scored back-to-back finishing goals when Watumde Noble sent a nice feed to Riley Carlson in the thirty-fourth minute and Ian Young assisted Jed Snow just one minute later. The Hornets remained in shut-out position until Chris Kerr-Ayer scored for Whitcomb in the 45th minute off a penalty kick. Royal Healy made five saves for Twinfield and Joel Wright made 12 saves for the Hornets. ____________ |
