Chelsea Boys Break Even By Joseph Bonasera The Chelsea Red Devils boy’s varsity soccer team suffered a tough 2-0 loss to the Twinfield Trojans, last Wednesday. It was evenly matched between the two teams throughout the first half. Chelsea struggling with just 11 players kept the game close until part way through the second half. Chelsea’s defense was solid in the first half. A strong performance in goal for Matt Hogan kept the game tied at zero. However part way through the second half the Trojans struck first from a pass outside to a man waiting inside the18 giving them a 1-0 lead. Chelsea kept playing tough. Out of their next four possessions, three of them were on goal. But even that wasn’t enough. With about 15 minutes remaining in the second half the Trojans scored on a breakaway that put the game away. O.T. Win The Chelsea boys held on for a 2-1 overtime win Friday, Sept 7 versus Craftsbury. Part way through the first half Joe Bonasera scored on a shot just outside the 18 off a feed from Jim Welch to give the Red Devils a 1-0 lead. The score stayed that way for the first half. It wasn’t until just a few minutes remaining in the game that Craftsbury scored the tying goal off a free kick, after a controversial call. The game was evenly matched for the remainder of the game. In the first 10-minute overtime Welch finished a cross from Chelsea’s Charlie Mau that give Chelsea the 2-1 win. Chelsea’s record is 1-1. ____________ |
