Rochester Boys
Off to Good Start
By Liam McKinley

The Rochester Rockets boys team ended their first week with a promising 2-1 record with wins over Cabot and rival Whitcomb. The one loss came from powerhouse West Rutland, who is predicted to be among the top teams in Division IV this year.

Loss to West Rutland

Game one versus West Rutland was an 8-5 loss for Rochester. The Rockets gave their opponent a scare when in the first half the game was tied at two. Even though the Golden Horde were able to pull away, Rochester made it a game for them.

Junior Tanner Haskins had a monster game with four goals; freshman Graham Leathers added the other goal, his first on varsity. John Colton made a huge impact on defense with his aggressive play, he was able to break up many of West Rutland’s plays. Keeper Liam McKinley was able to stop 34 of West Rutland’s amazing 42 shots on goal.

Win Over Whitcomb

Game two pitted Rochester against their long time rival Whitcomb. These two teams always play hard against each other, so you know you’re in for a good game. This year, Rochester was able to come away with the glory in a 5-0 rout of the Hornets.

Haskins again had a good scoring day with two goals. Ethan White also had two, and Enrique Murray also added a goal. "It always feels good to beat Bethel" stated sophomore Jace Curtis after the win, "They always give us a good game, and they’re fun to play."

The Rockets hope to gain some momentum from this rivalry win to carry with them, and keep on playing well.

Victory vs Cabot

Game three of the Rockets season was against Cabot. Last year, Cabot beat Rochester in double overtime. The story this year couldn’t have been more different. Rochester blew out Cabot in a 7-0 win. All seven of the Rockets goals came in the first half.

After that Coach Brad Leathers let some of the younger players get time on the field. Haskins yet again had a ridiculous game with another three goals, his third hat trick in a row. White added two goals and Pat Crowley had a great shot for his first goal from well outside of the 18 yard box. Cabot was only able to manage three shots on goal, all of which were stopped by keeper McKinley.

The Rockets are now on a two game winning streak that they hope to extend with their next game against the South Royalton Royals.
