Village Needs
Open Spaces

After the fires of 1992 which devastated the village business center a spirit of citizen participation in ideas and plans for the future emerged with a set of values and goals for the renewal of the Randolph village center.

This from the Randolph Downtown Master Plan: "...the possibility of creating a town green or park....", and "....the citizens of Randolph would like to see open spaces in the downtown".

In 2001 the Our Town, Your Town public forums on the future look of the village were well attended. People spoke of the need to maintain "open spaces", and "to keep beautiful areas beautiful" (See the Our Town, Your Town report)

Contrary to those sentiments, the forces of development favor the construction of buildings on all available open spaces in the village. The 1911 school site on Main street could have been preserved as a green open space, a village park. The spacious lawn fronting Gifford hospital was built over and paved. Now the green park fronting the municipal building on Summer street is threatened with destruction.

Let’s preserve this last open space in the village center.
