Peace Walks

In Rochester

On Saturday, Aug. 25 the last peace walk was a wonderful success, and the peace symbol has been embroidered with the dates of the eight Saturdays’ peace walks along with "2007 Independence Day Rochester Vermont"—and it is ready for its upcoming trip to D.C!.

Then on Tuesday, Aug. 28 we joined forces for one single event with MoveOn.org and participated in a nationwide peace vigil. At 7 p.m. we took a stand. We called on our friends. The gathering was deeply moving, and began with one minute of silence for all the people from the different nations who have died during the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The walk was a multigenerational event where veterans and activists walked side-by-side. We were people from several neighboring towns united for peace and to bring an end to war.

Two sisters who have been activists since the ‘60s drove all the way from Warren to participate. We all walked the peace walk around the park and peacefully took over the white house on the Rochester green.

There will be more spontaneous peace walks in Rochester in the coming months, and we encourage anyone who feels so inclined to walk any day for peace.
