Randolph Boys Pre-Season Soccer
By David Cooch

On August 13 the RUHS boys JV and varsity soccer players assembled once again at the Randolph fields for pre-season practice. In addition to the new freshman players, a new coach, Tim Kaleita, heads the varsity team.

Kaleita, a former soccer coach at St. Michaels College and one-time semi-professional soccer player, has effectively improved the standard of play and has lit the fire for the varsity and JV teams.

The varsity squad will field five seniors this year who are looking for a stellar finale to their Randolph soccer career. In the goal senior Beau Handy will look to be Randolph’s shot blocker, backed up by senior David Whitlock, right back, and senior Kyle Connolly, sweeper. Honorable mention defenseman Thomas Jacobs will unfortunately have to sit out his senior year due to surgery.

Seniors David Cooch and David Maxfield will be Randolph’s midfield presence, along with juniors Sam Lyons and Justin Messier. The frontline of Randolph is very young, but nonetheless talented, with sophomore Alex Green and freshman Zach Miller playing the striking role. Juniors Jon White and Justin Tilton will round out the defensive zone of Randolph, along with exchange student Florian Fischer. Back-up goalie and midfielder Nik Bent and exchange student Chrisoph Respondek round out the Randolph varsity squad.

The JV team, coached by Adin West, has a promising looking team as well, and looks for success this fall.

Thus far in scrimmages Randolph has beaten South Royalton 3-1, lost to Mill River 1-3, and lost to Thetford 0-2. The JV team is 1-1 in pre-season action. The boy’s first game and home opener is on Friday the 31st, when they square off against Montpelier. They would greatly appreciate your support.
