BROOKFIELD—Muriel R. Brown, 67, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2007, at Rowan Court in Barre. She was born July 28, 1940, in Craftsbury Common, the daughter of Willis N. and Gladys May (Allen) Reed. She attended schools in Craftsbury Common and Montpelier, and graduated from Plainfield High School. She married Gaylen "Buster" Brown January 13, 1962, in Williamstown. They moved to Brookfield in 1962. Her memberships included the New Covenant Church in Brookfield. In earlier years, she was active with the Girl Scouts of America. She enjoyed gardening and doing crossword puzzles. Survivors include her husband, Gaylen "Buster" Brown of Brookfield; three sons, Willis G. Brown and Ricky G. Brown, both of Brookfield, and James A. Brown of Roxbury; two daughters, Theresa M. Taplin of Brookfield and Cindy L. Callahan of West Burke; a sister, Alida Davis of Bristol, Conn.; a step-brother, Arkie Pond of Richford; a step-sister, Joanie Holzworth of Windsor; eight grandchildren; several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, her mother, and her step-father, Arthur Pond. Funeral service were held Tuesday morning, Aug. 26, at Day Funeral Home, with Rev. Stephen Berry officiating. Phyllis Hawley was the organist. The congregation sang "Rock of Ages," "Amazing Grace," and "It Is Well with My Soul." Rev. Berry shared prayer and scripture. The poem "Footprints" was read by Rachel Brown. Rev. Berry shared Muriel’s life story, and led a time of remembrance. Memories were shared by Theresa Taplin and Bonnie Fallon. Rev. Berry gave the message, "A New Beginning," and closed with scripture and the benediction. Burial followed at the Brookfield Center Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ian Callahan, Scott Davis, David Davis, Jeffrey Davis, Rick Brown, and Andrew Tibbetts. A reception following the burial was hosted by the New Covenant Church.
