The Chandler Centennial will also be celebrated at the Chandler Gallery, with eight month-long shows, many of which will explore Chandler and Randolph History. "Chandler Inside and Out," the first show of the season, features historical photos that tell the story of Albert. B. Chandler’s life, the music hall, and the town of Randolph. Retired photographer and art gallery chair Ken Goss helped dig up the photos from the historical society and other archival sources. The exhibit will be followed by a show of area printmakers using traditional and digital methods, including renowned Vermont printmaker Sabra Field’s special commemorative poster. The handmade quilts of Holley Junker will be shown in February. This year’s student art exhibit, in March, will also have a centennial tie-in. Area K-12 kids will explore the theme of "100". In April the gallery will revisit the work of 100 artists who have previously exhibited in the Chandler Gallery. And May 17-June 22, Vermont Technical College and staff will curate a cutting-edge exhibit of media that artists of the future will use. The final show of the season, "Adding to the Legacy: Chandler’s Centennial Art Commission," will share artists’ proposals for a commissioned piece of art to be added to the gallery’s collection. Additionally, the annual Holiday Gift Bazaar will feature local handmade artisan gifts from Nov. 24-Dec. 28. "We’re constantly trying to upgrade the shows," said Goss, who said quality and attendance has been increasing. |
