Gallery at Chandler Hosted Fourth in Roundtable Series

What is the state of the arts in Randolph? By what attributes does one identify oneself as an artist? How do we depict our own personal narrative? Why do we do art in the first place?

These were just some of the topics explored in the Gallery at Chandler’s fourth Artists Roundtable held Tuesday, Aug. 21. As moderator, Chandler board member Linda Morse kept things going at this lively event. These challenging questions were not only addressed by the three artists on the panel, Randolph’s Bob Eddy and Dan Pritchard, and Montpelier’s Annie Tiberio-Cameron, but by an audience made up of a number of area artists as well.

"Educational events of this type are a focus of our educational mission," explained Outreach Coordinator for Chandler, Betsy Cantlin. Gallery Committee members Nina Gaby and Ken Goss were gratified by the turnout, and Gaby, who set the idea in motion two years ago is excited to see the series continue.

"Most interesting for me," remarked one attendee, "is to see Bob Eddy as a painter, and hear him describe how that process differs from how he works as a photographer; how much more of a story he is telling."

Board member Wink Willett, who hopes to see more of these forum-oriented events in the future, said, "It is quite exciting to have this level of discussion inspired by the work of these three artists. I certainly learned a lot."

Photographer Annie Tiberio-Cameron and furniture-maker Dan Pritchard teamed with Eddy in the most recent Chandler Gallery offering, "Pigment, Paper, Wood."

As Chandler’s Centennial Year gets underway this fall, the gallery plans to create continued opportunities for educational events in conjunction with the ’07-’08 schedule. Upcoming is a narrated slide show by Tiberio-Cameron on Sunday, Sept. 23, and a basic digital photography workshop Sunday, Sept. 30, also taught by Tiberio-Cameron.
